CCW Requirements

You may apply for a Missouri concealed carry permit if you:

  1. Are a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident of the United States and either:
    A. Are at least nineteen years of age and a resident of the state of Missouri (or)
    B. Are an active duty or honorably discharged military member and at least 18 years of age, or the spouse of an active duty military member and at least 19 years of age and have assumed residency in this state.
  2. have no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving a firearm or similar weapon
  3. have no convictions of a misdemeanor crime of violence within the last 5 years or two or more convictions of DUI or substance abuse within the last 5 years
  4. are not a fugitive
  5. have not been dishonorably discharged from the military
  6. have not engaged in a documented pattern of behavior that may cause the sheriff to believe you might be a danger to yourself or others
  7. have not been legally adjudged mentally incompetent
  8. are not subject to a valid full order of protection (restraining order)
  9. submit proof of the training required under subsection 571.111.2 that included a minimum of 8 hours of training that covered:
  • Handgun safety in the classroom, at home, on the firing range and while carrying the firearm;
  • A physical demonstration performed by the applicant that demonstrated his or her ability to safely load and unload a revolver and a semiautomatic pistol and demonstrated his or her marksmanship with both;
  • The basic principles of marksmanship;
  • Care and cleaning of concealable firearms;
  • Safe storage of firearms at home;
  • The requirements of this state for obtaining a certificate of qualification for a concealed carry endorsement from the sheriff of the individual’s county of residence and a concealed carry endorsement issued by the department of revenue;
  • The laws relating to firearms as prescribed in this chapter;
  • The laws relating to the justifiable use of force as prescribed in chapter 563;
  • A live firing exercise of sufficient duration for each applicant to fire a handgun, from a standing position or its equivalent, a minimum of twenty rounds at a distance of seven yards from a B-27 silhouette target or an equivalent target; with either gun
  • A live fire test administered to the applicant while the instructor was present of twenty rounds from a standing position or its equivalent at a distance from a B-27 silhouette target, or an equivalent target, of seven yards with either gun.
